Zusammenfassung

Der Aufbau US-amerikanischer Parteien ist grundsätzlich anders als der ihrer europäischen Pendants. Strukturell erheblich schwächer aufgestellt, kontrollieren sie nicht einmal die eigene Kandidatenwahl. Als Wahlkampfdienstleister leisten die Organisationen der beiden Großparteien auf der nationalen Ebene sowie innerhalb der Einzelstaaten jedoch wichtige Arbeit, während externe Gruppierungen und Kleinspender in den letzten Jahrzehnten an Bedeutung gewonnen haben. Auch wenn die innere ideologische Geschlossenheit der Parteien stärker wird, bietet ihre vergleichsweise lose Konstitution weiterhin genügend Einfallstore für Außenseiter und Strömungen, um eine wettbewerbsfähige Drittpartei zu vermeiden.
